The story of the afternoon

Walton breaks out as Notre Dame turns a perfect fall Saturday into a rout

Notre Dame forced a turnover on Stanford’s first offensive snap, led 37–0 at halftime, and rolled to a 58–7 win at Notre Dame Stadium. Jonaz Walton set a program single-game rushing record for a true freshman with 181 yards and two touchdowns as the Irish improved to 6–0.

The tone was set immediately. Boubacar Traore’s strip-sack gave the offense a short field, and Nolan James Jr. scored less than two minutes into the game. Notre Dame never gave Stanford room to settle.

Walton supplied the unforgettable plays: a 97-yard touchdown on the first offensive snap of the second quarter and a 40-yard score in the fourth. The Irish finished with 361 rushing yards, 598 total yards, and no turnovers.

The defense completed the picture. Stanford managed 202 total yards, converted only two of 11 third downs, and committed three turnovers. By halftime, Notre Dame had built a 37-point lead and turned Irish Wear Green into a celebration.

The defense takes over on Stanford’s first snap

Boubacar Traore strip-sacked Davis Warren and Jaiden Ausberry recovered at the Stanford 18. Nolan James Jr. finished the short field with a two-yard touchdown run.

Walton runs into the record book

On Notre Dame’s first offensive play of the quarter, Jonaz Walton burst 97 yards from the Irish three for a touchdown—the defining play of his breakout afternoon.

Traore creates another possession

Traore intercepted Warren and returned it 18 yards. Spencer Porath’s 33-yard field goal converted the takeaway into points.

The Irish remove any doubt

James scored from 31 yards, then CJ Carr found Aneyas Williams for a 70-yard touchdown. Notre Dame held a 320–86 advantage in total offense at intermission.

Carr adds his third touchdown pass

Carr connected with Elijah Burress for a 30-yard score. Stanford answered with its only touchdown, a three-yard pass from Warren to Benji Blackburn.

Walton and the reserves finish it

Walton’s 40-yard touchdown completed his 181-yard day. A 16-play, 90-yard reserve-led drive ended with Javian Osborne’s first career touchdown, and Mark Zackery IV intercepted Stanford’s final pass.
